Shader support broken in 0.4?

I'm having trouble getting the sky shader from the tutorial to work. When I run the .exe in the zip file it runs and I see the sky as it's supposed to be. When I open the project with Visual Studio, add references to the XNAQ3Lib 0.4 Dll and recompile the sky flickers purple and the textures are gone. I can confirm this on a Geforce FX5200 and a Geforce 7600.

The size of the compiled shaders is different (new one with the one that was originally in the tutorial). When I copy back the original compiled shader file the sky works again. Perhaps the shader compilation code was broken in 0.4?
